This piece is inspired by the Hasanlu lovers. Found in modern day Iran, this grave is dated to 800 BCE. It is believed that when this site was excavated, this city had been under siege. These two individuals were thought to have hidden away to avoid capture and death. They were then most likely encapsulated in their hiding place due to the destruction of the city. their final moment of tenderness is caught forever in this tender embrace. To add to the mystique and intrigue dna tests later revealed to two individuals were most likely male. A beautiful reminder that love can transcend time, place and gender.
